GSA Amends FAR to Allow Sole-Source Awards to SDVOSB Firms
Effective August 2, 2010, the GSA has amended the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) to allow contracting officers supporting Federal Agencies to award contracts to Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) concerns on a sole-source basis. The proposed rule was published on May 19, 2009 and comments closed on July 10, 2009. The new language is found in Section 19.1406, and allows for individual sole-source awards up to $3.5 million.
Rick Hardy, President of FDS, said “The Civilian Agency Acquisition Council and the Defense Acquisition Regulations Council issuing of a final rule to amend the FAR shows confidence in the ability of SDVOSBs to meet critical national defense and infrastructure needs. This provides additional tools for FDS to serve our customers, and is a welcome amendment.”
